The first birthday celebration for WA Restaurant Review website EatingWA was well under way by 8pm on Friday night at Luxe Bar, pity it was a bit like Night at the Roxbury - with some of the party happening outside, thanks to the slow process of getting inside the venue.
The free drinks were taken advantage of straight away and luckily we got onto it, purchasing a few drinks each every time - as apparently the bar tab was 'consumed' quite quickly. That didn't seem to phase us, as we were quite 'content' with the drinks that we had. For an eating party, I thought there would be food flowing from everywhere, but I actually didn't spot any food all night! That also didn't phase us early on, but we did get a tad peckish later in the night.
We were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time, and we given a wristband that allowed us to venture down to the ‘Red Room’ where the lead singer from Eskimo Joe – Kav Temperley, played an intimate acoustic set. His short, but sweet set, was fantastic. We could pretty much reach out and touch him, as he was playing amongst people including WA swimming star Eamon Sullivan, members of the Australian Water Polo team, members of the Western Force and other Perth socialites. I thought this was probably the best part of the night – seeing someone up close and personal always makes me feel like I am in Melbourne – this kind of thing happens all the time there. Upstairs, people were entertained by a guy on the bongo drums, which added to the mood of the night. Dancers from Sugar Blue Burlesque entertained those that were smart enough to stay inside, as it was quite chilly outside.
My friends and I had a great time (thanks to our stash of free drinks, maybe?) contrary to what some people said about the night – I was entertained by one of Perth’s highly acclaimed singer/songwriters and I mingled with some stars. I just had to swing past the kebab shop to cure the hunger on the way home, but that's nothing new for a Friday night out on the town for me.
Happy 1st Birthday EatingWA.
